Ancient documents testify since the '500 presence in La Thuile of coal mines and silver, but the first mines, mainly coal, exploitation craft dates back only to the early nineteenth century. Towards the end of the twenties, La Thuile became a mining town and mining reached the top after the war, only to suffer a decline that led to the closure of the mines in 1966. Evidence of the history of the mines are collected in an interesting exhibition in the Museum Maison Debernard. La Thuile also proposes a number of trails in the woods, those shorter than about half an hour up to those of more than four hours, in which you can see traces of the rails carrying carts, the inputs of the tunnels and the ruins of the ramparts the miners.
