Due to a popular initiative in 1948, La Thuile built its first chairlift. This was in the days when people skied only telemark and wore knee-length trousers.
With the economic boom, many Italians started coming more frequently to stay in the mountains, and La Thuile was no exception. But skiing was still a sport of the elite.
The first mechanical lift in La Thuile opened in 1967/68 and was made of two coloured cabins, a blue one and a yellow one, that had a capacity of 600 people per hour. This lift was constructed by a society from Turin called "Piemonte Funivie".
Other ski lifts were installed just after a brief period: Les Suches, Chaz Dura… and then some chair lifts, such as Cerellaz and Belvedere… These were the first steps towards the idea of a link with the French resort of La Rosière.
